Re:  Conference-NCTM, Atlanta GA, March 21-24, 2007

The 87th annual conference of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics was held at the Georgia World Conference Center in Atlanta.  Nearly 1000 sessions dealing with improvement in mathematics education made up the program.   Approximately 14,000 attendees trudged miles in the huge convention center to make any of the sessions.

The opening general session featured Thomas Friedman, the author of The World is Flat.  His take on geopolitics and globalization was interesting.  But when he decided to talk about education, he was clearly in over his head.

My presentation was on Thursday and about 250 teachers were in attendance.  Since then nearly two dozen have requested my overheads.  I also made a short presentation on Friday in support of the new elementary series which I coauthored and which was published this Spring.

I appreciate the opportunity to attend and the financial support.
