Barbara Price, Ed.D. currently serving your CCA/CTA-NEA Union as President barbara@coastcca.comUpon graduation I attended San Jose State University and completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a dual major in Business and English. I also received my Secondary Teaching Credential; then spent the next 21 years as a mother, high school business teacher and wife of a USMC officer, which afforded me the opportunity to live and teach in several states and in Spain. Upon returning to California, I earned my Master’s Degree in Education Administration from San Diego State University, my Education Specialist Degree in Supervision from Point Loma College and my Doctorate from Northern Arizona University in Education Administration. I worked as a public school administrator at Vista Unified School District, the Los Angeles County Office of Education and Pomona Unified School District; served as President of the California Association of Vocational Administrators; retired from public education and became a Professor and the Director of Education Programs for Chapman University, where I directed the largest teacher and administrator preparation program in the State of California. I retired from Chapman a few years ago and then began teaching and supervising student teachers at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Currently I am teaching in the Teacher Preparation Program at Orange Coast College where I was honored to receive the 2004-5 Part-time Teacher of the Year Award nominated by my students. I have also been honored with state and national awards and have had the privilege of serving on several local, state and national boards. I am named in Who’s Who in California and Who’s Who in Education in America. I received the 2006 We Honor Ours CTA (W.H.O.) award for our local chapter. I have served on the Executive Board since 2004 as Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and now, as your President since June, 2006. I serve on the CTA State Council representing Higher Education and have had the privelege of representing CCA at the Annual NEA National Conference as a State Delegate. I am proud of the accomplishments that have been achieved over the past few year to benefit our part-time educators in this district.Thirty years ago I finally married the right man, Jack Price. He is an internationally known Mathematics educator of superior achievement. We reside in Newport Beach, California, and enjoy traveling and spending time with our daughters and sons and their spouses and our fourteen grandchildren: nine boys and five girls ranging in age from 6 to 32. |

Don-Earle Turnbull, Secretary don@coastcca.comDon Turnbull first stepped on a track when he was just three years old, but his passion for running really started when, as a fifth grader he started running to get in shape. He completed his first 10k race later that year and has never looked back.Don’s 20-plus year coaching career started early by coaching youth track and field. While still a senior in high school he became the Girls Head Track coach for Cypress High School. As his skill and experience progressed Don would go on to coach at various high schools and community colleges.
Don’s many successes include coaching 16 All-Americans at Golden West College and Mt. SAC and being part of six State Championship teams in addition to many elite and even some professional athletes. Don is a versatile coach who has applied his skills across many sports. He has successfully worked with athletes in a wide range of sports such as track and field, basketball, football & even ultimate fighting. He is the only coach in Southern California to be USATF Level II certified in two events. He is also a highly requested announcer in basketball, football and track. Announcing many high school, college and International events a each year. Athletics has always been one of Don’s great loves and his athletes are like family to him. But closest to his heart are his wonderful wife Beth, his stepson Dylan and his son Zachary Drake. |

Dr. Jack Price – Treasurer jack@coastcca.comMy 50-plus year career in education has been roughly divided into fourths. I taught mathematics and science for 13 years in elementary, middle, and high schools in Detroit, held middle management positions mainly in curriculum for 11 years, and then served 14 years as a superintendent, seven years each in two 10,000 student districts. During my 14 years as superintendent, I returned three times to the classroom to teach semester-long mathematics courses in the high schools of the districts. In July, 1990, I became Co-Director of the Center for Education and Equity in Mathematics, Science, and Technology (CEEMaST) in the College of Science at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona where I taught mathematics and mathematics education courses for prospective teachers. I am now Professor Emeritus, Mathematics Education. I currently teach mathematics part-time in the Teach3 program in Coast CCD.As a former president of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, I have been a member of NCTM since 1957. I am a life member of the California Mathematics Council, an honorary life member of the Greater San Diego Mathematics Council, holds memberships in MAA, and AMTE, and am a retired member of AASA. I served as a member of the Expert Panel on Science and Mathematics for the US Department of Education. My national service began when I was appointed one of the seven members of the National Advisory Committee on Mathematical Education (NACOME) in 1975. A founding member of the Mathematical Sciences Education Board of the National Research Council, I completed my second term as a member of the executive committee. I served on the Mathematics Curriculum Standards Advisory Committee for the State of California and have been a member of the standing committee on mathematics of NAEP. I am currently a member of the Mathematics Advisory Panel of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
I have authored or co-authored 23 textbooks in science and mathematics for Merrill and Glencoe Publishing, and was also editor with Jane Gawronski of Changing School Mathematics: A Responsive Process, one in a series of professional development books for NCTM which was jointly published with ASCD and AASA. I currently live in Newport Beach with my wife, Dr. Barbara Price, where together we enjoy our 14 grandchildren, as well as reading, writing, golf, and the beach. |
