Thanks to the dedicated efforts of a terrific coalition of part-time faculty advocates from CCA, CFT, CPFA, FACCC, CWI, and CCCI, a brand-new bill calling for rehire rights for part-time faculty has just been introduced.
The bill is AB 1807 was introduced by Assembly Members Paul Fong (D-22nd District) and Pedro Nava (D-35th District), and co-authored by Assembly Member Fiona Ma (D-12th District). The language of the bill would “require a community college district to place the name of a temporary employee employed under those provisions, who meets specified requirements, on a reemployment preference list. The bill would provide a temporary employee on that list with specified rights of first refusal to a teaching assignment in his or her faculty service area, as defined.” We’ll be bringing you updates on revisions, new co-sponsors, and calls to action as the bill makes its way through the legislature.
