There have been some inquiries about why the dues went from $19.84 in September to $25.34 in October. The dues for CTA, NEA, CCA and Coast CCA are set in June and transmitted to the locals. In turn, these were sent to the District and appeared as a deduction in your paycheck.
However, the notice that we received from CTA failed to include the $4.95 for state CCA dues. Thus the October paycheck included the original $19.84, the $4.95, and $0.55 for each of the next nine pays to make up the $4.95 missing from the first check. This totals $25.34, the amount deducted from the October check and succeeding checks this year. We are sorry for the inconvenience but it was a mistake from the State CTA. Please don’t shoot the messenger.
News Regarding Your 2009-10 Dues/Agency Fees
There has been a revision to the dues originally directed to us by CCA-CTA/NEA. I received a letter spelling out the dues for this academic year which delineated the dues published in our newsletter and on our website. Now I am told that that letter was incorrect and that I must make the changes accordingly. The first months of deductions have already been in effect. The only way I could correct this error is to amortize the additional amount of $4.95 over the remaining nine months of the academic year. So here is the result of that action: Current deduction of 19.84, which should have been $24.79 will now be $25.50 for the next nine months. The additional dues, which was not mentioned in the original letter I received, are the CCA dues of $49.50 per year.
Those teachers paying only the local dues and/or the local dues plus the CCA dues will not see any difference in deductions. There is also a $2 per month “contribution to CTA” (as CTA calls it) taken out of your salary as part of your dues, which you can have refunded by completing a simple form. You merely need to complete a short form, available from your CCA campus VP or Rep. or online at mycta.com, to request this $20 refund, and a check will be sent to you.
