John P. Dunham John Dunham was born and raised in Costa Mesa, California. He started his college education by taking Freshman English through Coastline College during his senior year at Estancia High School. After graduation he attended general education courses at Orange Coast College before transferring to Golden West College to study physics. John later transferred to UCLA and graduated with a B.S. in physics. After graduation John entered the semiconductor business as a process engineer for Micron Technology in Boise, Idaho. He later moved back to Orange County to work for Silicon Systems where he invented a method of measuring the crystal shift of single crystal silicon used to manufacture bipolar integrated circuits. John spent the next 16 years in various engineering, management and executive positions with Silicon Systems and it’s spin-offs, finishing his career as Director of Manufacturing Operations for Teridian Semiconductor Corporation. John left the semiconductor world to pursue a teaching career. He entered California State University, Long Beach and completed the course work for his M.S. in Mathematics with an Option in Applied Statistics. John is currently completing his master’s project involving a mathematical validation of prediction of large earthquakes using the theory of accelerated moment release. Shortly after returning to California from Idaho, John enrolled once again at OCC. This time he signed up for karate classes taught by OCC and CCC instructor and three-time National Karate Champion David Crockett. John and his wife, Cindy, fell in love with karate and continued to pursue it at Mr. Crockett’s studio. After a few years John began competing. His competitive career took him to the National Karate Championship, the US Team Trails, and the Shito-Ryu Karate World Championships. Ultimately, karate led John back to Coastline College, where he was hired to teach Self-Defense Arts. John currently teaches mathematics at Cerritos College. He joined the Coast CCA board in December of 2008 as the Campus Representative for the CCC Costa Mesa Campus. John feels passionate about the abusive pay practices that have evolved for part-time community college teachers. He is determined to foster a strong sense of community among part-time teachers, because this will give them the strong voice they need to win equitable pay and benefits for their dedication to higher education. John has been married to Cynthia Lew-Dunham for 25 years and they have two children who will someday attend community college. |
