From April 20 to April 22 the six delegates from the Coast CCA Executive Board attended the CCA/CTA Spring Conference aboard the Queen Mary. A very important event of the conference was the W.H.O. (We Honor Ours) Banquet. Our candidate Sean Glumace, CoastCCA Vice President representing Golden West College, was our honoree. Along with Sean several CCA members from throughout the state were honored for not only showing exemplary leadership, but also for providing valuable educational and networking opportunities to all their members. When the board was not eating, sleeping or honoring, we were attending workshops designed to sharpen our skills as officers. Among the most valuable workshops were those contract negotiations and involvement with district Boards of Trustees. In the former workshop, the attendees were presented with the concessions and demands necessary for constructing an ideal contract. The latter workshop primarily covered the basics of forming and operating a PAC (political action committee) within a local to find, back and get elected labor friendly trustees. The information presented in these and other workshops will prove useful for our efforts to improve the working conditions of Part-Time Faculty as the Coast CCA expands its membership and influence within the CCCD. It was both rejuvenating and inspiring to be in amongst so many people who go above and beyond the call of duty to serve their union brothers and sisters.
