Memorandum of Understanding Parity Pay

Dear CCA Union and Unit Members:

This evening our MOU regarding our Parity Money was finally approved by the Coast CCD Board of Trustees. This is a battle that I have been fighting for the past eleven months. As you can see you will all be getting a check for the amount of parity money the district has been holding back from your monthly pay as they stated that they made a mathematical error last year and overpaid so now this year they were justified in taking half of your parity money from you. Well we fought and finally won. You have been only getting half of what you were due and now in a lump sum you will get all the rest. I will see to it that they do not take anything out of lump sum except the three required deductions which you will note are listed on the last line of the MOU. If you have further questions you are welcome to e-mail me. Those who were teaching in the Fall but not in the Spring will also be getting a check. Those of you who were only teaching in the Spring will also get a check. Those of you who were teaching in the Fall and Spring will get larger checks.

Sincerely,

Barbara

Memorandum of Understanding

Between

Coast Community College Association (Association)

And

Coast Community College District (District)

1. This is a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Coast Community College Association (“CCA”) and the Coast Community College District (“District”) regarding the distribution of available parity funds (“Parity”).

2. These parity funds are to be distributed pursuant to the Part-time Faculty Parity Compensation Program (“Program”) and are allocated by the State Chancellor’s Office for the purpose of increasing compensation for part-time faculty. Parity Funds are distributed to community College districts based on the total actual full-time equivalent students (“FTES”) served in the previous fiscal year as determined by the State Chancellor’s Office.

3. This MOU will be effective commencing for the 2009-2010 academic year and until the above parties agree parity has been reached or the State Board of Trustees no longer funds the Program, whichever comes first.

4. It is hereby agreed between the District and CCA that parity funds shall be distributed as follows:

(a) During the 2008-2009 academic year, parity funds were partially distributed according to the B-1 salary schedule for unit members.

(b) Any undistributed parity funds remaining on June 30, 2009, from the State’s final total allocation will be distributed in a lump sum before July 30, 2009 or within 30 days after the final State budget for 2008/2009 and 2009/2010. The funds will be distributed based on each Unit Member’s percentage of the total District part-time faculty payroll for each academic year.

(c) Beginning in 2009-2010, the B-1 salary schedule is deleted and Parity Funds will be distributed in a lump sum after the Spring semester in July, based on each Unit Member’s percent of the total expenditure in Schedule B. The total percentage for each Unit Member shall include all payrolls from July 1 to June 30 of that academic year. The funds will be distributed based on each Unit Member’s percentage of the total District par-time faculty payroll for each academic year.

5. Listed below are the “estimated” statutory and other employer paid costs for Unit Members that will be deducted by Parity fund Distributions to unit members.
